It’s not that long ago that my Saturday nights were more adventurous than an evening in front of the television. Now though, I find myself admitting that for the last few weeks I have actually quite enjoyed taking on the role of fifth judge and passing judgement on the hopefuls singing their hearts out on The Voice UK. This Saturday we will gather together to shout at the screen and cheer on our favourites one last time as Jamie, Michelle, Mo and Into The Ark battle it out in the final.
Along the way there have been some amazing performances and as you would expect there has been a few stories designed to pull at your heart strings, but it is the interactive nature of this series that has made it interesting. By integrating Philips Hue lighting with The Voice UK app we’ve experienced the show in a more engaging and immersive way. During the initial audition phases my children loved the chance to step into the coaches shoes and push the red button to turn their fictional chair for their favourites. This was made all the more exciting by the dramatic change in lighting. During the live performances the studio atmosphere has entered our very own living room as the lights replicate what’s taking place on stage. The perfect accompaniment for some karaoke!
Such interactions are only the start. The TV remains a focal point for entertainment in our homes and by adding colours and even sounds it becomes a more intense and richer experience. Bringing the action into our homes and extending the film, TV or even gaming experience with dynamic lighting effects will only become more popular, providing a more sensory overall experience. It’s a future that definitely gets my vote.
