    At the recent Philips Lighting ‘Greater Together’ event, we celebrated the talent in our business with a series of recognition awards.


    As someone who is passionate about helping people reach their potential and creating diverse teams, I want to celebrate with you some of our winners and get share their insights on the important roles they play within the business.


    Mark Gabbitas heads up the Lighting Application team and has been with the company just over two years. Mark won the Leadership Recognition Award for the work he and his team do across lighting solutions for indoor and outdoor applications (including offices, factories, shops, hotels, roads, tunnels and sports). Mark describes his role as ‘combining the scientific, artistic and technological aspects of lighting, to create installations which are both functional and appealing’.

    His advice for anyone looking to start a career in lighting design is:


    • Show an appetite to learn and an attitude to apply yourself
    • You don’t have to be the most educated or articulate if you can work hard and have a good attitude
    • Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. We all do it!


    Daniel Beamish was the winner of the Game Changer Award for the work he does in the Consumer Sales team – a challenging role, as it requires both internal and external management to deliver to the against customer expectations. He enjoys being with his customers and unlocking new opportunities for them, often based on a long-term plan.

    What would his advice be to anyone starting a career in sales?


    • Cultivate strong relationships with customers.
    • Use customer and market insights to develop jointly agreed plans
    • Manage both customer and internal expectations


    And last, but not least, our very own Jake Robinson from Marketing who won Apprentice of the Year.

    ‘Greater Together’ event

    Jake has been with us for two years as our Marketing Apprentice. His role includes managing and tracking budget, from the planning and setting of goals right through to the analytics.


    Jake’s advice to others starting a career in marketing operations is:


    • Learn as much as you can about everything
    • Be the person that people come to about any question
    • Get involved with as much as you can
    • Enjoy working with numbers!
