As the nights draw in, remember Hue’s always at home

Andrew Baxter, Product Specialist, Connected Lighting explains how our growing Hue connected lighting solutions offer reassurance as the darker evenings return.

Now I’m back with my family from a summer holiday and the hours of daylight have started to recede, I’ve been struck by how our Hue connected lighting solution acts as a 24:7 personal lighting ‘butler’, which gives the impression that however dark it is outside, it feels like someone is always at home. On a personal level, it’s not only reassuring because it helps to deter potential burglars, but because the lights will automatically come on as you arrive home, so there’s no more fumbling in the dark to find your keys.

Hue is much more than just a dimmable light bulb; it can be tailored to each family member’s needs. Kids coming home from school in the dark? No problem. New geofencing technology can be used to turn your Hue lights on as they enter the front gate and Hue senses their arrival through their mobile phone. It means kids need never come to a dark house.

Having now returned from my summer break, it’s become even clearer to me, that what Hue also does well is to enable all of us to essentially ‘vacation proof’ our homes, enabling us to mimic our presence in the property, whether we are there or not. Want to give the impression you’re in the front room watching TV? Hue can be set to flash in the same way as a TV screen. From the outside, it can look like you’re still in the house.

The feedback we’re hearing from Hue’s early adopters is that they like its flexibility. Some tailor it to wake them up gently in the morning, others to turn all their lights off at bedtime. Overwhelmingly what our users are telling us is that is that they like the benefits that are simple and practical to solve the basics of everyday life that can otherwise be more troubling. And so, as the nights get darker, for me Hue’s benefit right now is its ability to provide reassurance and a sense of security. All that and for only a fraction of the cost of a real-life 24 hour ‘lighting butler’.
