With conventional lighting
too little light gets

to the lowest leaves, where the new shoots are produced. So the interlighting modules get light to the places that were previously left in the dark.”

Customer challenge

Marjoland is a progressive nursery. It constantly invests in innovative technology that will increase sustainability for the future. Partnering with Philips, the company sought a way to optimize production, save energy, and increase product quality.

Find this grower in the world.

The right lighting

Marjoland had already experimented with LED interlighting previously. However, to achieve the new goals, some cleverly planned testing was required. The company set aside 1000m2 for further optimization and testing of the light recipe it had designed.

Several lighting concepts were installed at Marjoland. The tests involved LED modules combined with SON-T lamps. The modules were positioned in the crop so as to also light the plant base, where the development of new shoots is stimulated. In addition, the light was positioned to shine on the leaves that normally receive little light, as this is where the new shoots are produced.

The tests revealed some positive results. Marjoland found that by using the correct light spectrum and positioning the lights correctly, faster shoot development can be achieved. By utilizing these optimized growth conditions, the company can grow a greater number of high quality plants at reduced costs.

The energy-efficient performance of LED means that Marjoland will keep its energy consumption and carbon emissions low.
